Smoke Of Sacrifice

We are set to harvest again
Mother,
Earth goddess,
Messenger of Chukwu.
We are set to harvest again
To refill our barns
And bring to your altar again
Our harvest offerings.
You
Who guides to the farms
And guards the farms
From the wars of nature.
You
Who decrees hefty harvests,
You
Who decrees famine.
We gather with gratitude
O’mother,
Enveloped in morning dews
And the sweet smell of pre-harvest sacrifice.
As we watch the smoke of sacrifice
Stroll to the sky,
Smiles
Stroke our faces.
